This morning I had the opportunity to be part of an interview with Chuck Colson for Christian Overman’s God’s Pleasure At Work course. Mr. Colson just received the Presidential Citizens Medal from President Bush for his service to our country and has voiced his support for the Worldview Matter’s course. We’ll be releasing that interview in a few weeks with some great reflections from Mr. Colson on the integration of a biblical worldview with the world of work. In the meantime, check out the PFM press release below that speaks volumes about Chuck Colson and why he does what he does.
In an Oval Office ceremony, President Bush awarded Colson the Presidential Citizens Medal, one of the highest honors the President can give a civilian, second only to the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The Presidential Citizens Medal was established in 1969 by President Richard Nixon, whom Colson served as special counsel from 1969 to 1973. Colson was later convicted of obstruction of justice in relation to the Watergate scandal that engulfed the Nixon administration. Shortly after his release from prison, Colson received God’s call to work for the rehabilitation and transformation of prisoners and the reform of the prison system.
“Whatever good I may have done is because God saw fit to reach into the depths of Watergate and convert a broken sinner,” said Colson. “Everything that has been accomplished these past 35 years has been by God’s grace and sovereign design.”

Dr. Christian Overman of Worldview Matters has created what I believe will be a vital tool in the toolbox of Christian men and women who are serious about integrating their faith with their work. He has spent years researching and creating an excellent seminar that was instrumental in transforming my own perspective on work. As I write this, I’m sitting in on one of Dr. Overman’s presentations at Westminster Chapel in Bellevue, WA and look forward to seeing the message spread! Check out Chuck Colson’s endorsement of Dr. Overman’s great work.
From the God’s Pleasure At Work online description:
God’s Pleasure At Work is a multi-media presentation by Dr. Christian Overman focusing on how a biblical worldview invigorates the workplace, renews the community and transforms culture. For this event, the GPAW course will span 35 days, beginning with a full-day workshop on October 31 (Part 1) and concluding with a full-day workshop on December 5 (Part 2). During the five week interim, participants will be encouraged to read the text that accompanies the GPAW course, Assumptions That Affect Our Lives, and consider specific (optional) study questions with a friend or a small group of their own choosing.
The GPAW course is based upon the premise that “God does His work through carpenters, cops and CEOs.” For a follower of Christ, there’s no such thing as “secular work.” As the English Puritan George Swinnock once said, “…his shop as well as his chapel is holy ground.”
