The Groundswell @ Work

December 31, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Several weeks back I contacted Hanson Hosein at UW’s MCDM via LinkedIn to connect him with Jill at Practical Chic. Hanson contacted Jill and now it looks like they’re on the move to further tap into the groundswell and catapult Jill’s book to the stars. Hanson writes on Flip the Media:

I’m going to propose an MCDM partnership to my Multimedia Storytelling students, as she begins her marketing campaign in earnest (which she describes as “placement, word-of-mouth and television”) in the next few weeks.  She’ll be a guest in our third class, and one of our assignments could be to figure out how to produce some short, MCDM-branded online videos that capture the book’s practical, humorous essence.  Jill is supposed to be leveraging traditional media with possible TV appearances on Good Morning America and Today, so it’d be interesting to see what we can do on the social media storytelling side (and how much attention we can garner for our program).

Hopefully the MCDM-Practical Chic parternship will produce a year of financial modesty for women all across the country.

Jill Keto: No Skirting the Fundamentals

December 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I just wrapped up Practical Chic’s new video, with Jill’s Top Ten Tips for Surviving the Recession. This project was a reminder of why I chose writing as a career rather than editing but I had a lot of fun and am happy with the results. Check it out when you get a chance and keep an eye on Jill’s progress toward the NY Times Best Seller list. Her revised and updated book is available on December 30.

Don’t Get Caught With Your Skirt Down

December 2, 2008 · 2 Comments

A couple of months back I met Jill Keto at the local Caffe Ladro. We began swapping stories and I learned about her recently published book, Don’t Get Caught With Your Skirt Down: A Practical Girls’ Recession Guide. Jill coauthored the book with her husband Dan Keto and self-published using Amazon’s CreateSpace for an initial investment of $40 and was quickly picked up by Simon & Schuster.

Jill has tapped into what Li and Bernoff termed the Groundswell of social technology and is now gunning for the NY Times best seller list. Based on what I’ve observed so far I think she just might make it. Jill has an amazing energy and is passionate about helping women get on the path to financial stability in these uncertain times.

Six8 Media had the privilege of joining forces with Jill and Corban Cooper from Cameography last week on the production of her forthcoming video. Keep an eye on her site, Practical Chic, and be sure to check out the new video in the coming weeks.
